Relationships, Sex and Health Education Policy Parental Consultation
As a part of your child's educational experience at Matching Green Primary School we aim to promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive programme of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education that gives children and young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future.
As you may already be aware, the Department for Education has announced changes to relationships, sex and health education following nationwide consultation. These changes will come into effect from Summer Term 2021 and all schools will be required to comply with the updated requirements. The statutory guidance can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/relationships-education-relationships-and-sex-education-rse-and-health-education
What and how content is taught is ultimately a decision for the school and consultation does not provide a parental veto on curriculum content, as schools are legally required to teach the National Curriculum. The right to withdraw children from Sex Education lessons is explained in the policy.
Our community and their views on this are particularly important to us. We shared the below documents and asked the parents, our school council and a variety of other stakeholders to complete a survey. Please see the attached PowerPoints for their feedback.
